Grease Fires
Grease fires happen quickly. Take steps to avoid being the victim of one by never leaving grease unattended on the stove. When you are finished cooking with oil, always make sure that you turn off the burner and then move the pan to a cold burner. If your oil ignites, do not try to move the pan! A grease fire should be smothered with a lid from the pan you are using. Make sure the lid is available before you start cooking.

Charge Your Fire Extinguisher
An extinguisher may look charged but, if it has been sitting for a long time, the contents may be packed at the bottom. Get it recharged-for free-and then every month just turn it upside down and right side up a few times to keep it loose. Keep your extinguisher near the exits so you can get out easily if the extinguisher fails to put the fire out.
Charge the batteries in your smoke alarms in the spring and fall when you change your clocks.

Lights On!
It is safer to drive with your lights on all the time, in bad weather situations, rather than rely on your day time running lights during daylight hours.
By turing on your headlights, not only will it be easier for oncomming traffic to see you, vehicles following you will be able to see your taillights as they will be turned on with your headlights.
